NY Medical College Physical Therapy Students Visit Pines Bridge

| "This is our first visit to BOCES…what a find!" said Dr. Susan Ronan, a professor of Physical Therapy at New York Medical College. She was accompanying about two dozen final-year doctoral Physical Therapy students on a "field trip" to The Pines Bridge School on Putnam/Northern Westchester BOCES' Yorktown campus, a state-of-the-art school for students ages 5 to 21 with multiple disabilities.
The medical students were taken on a tour of Pines Bridge by BOCES physical therapists Barbara Waldron of Cortlandt Manor and Deidra Toolan of Brewster, who talked about the many pieces of equipment used to help students move about; they also answered questions posed by the college students. According to Dr. Ronan, this visit was part of the final year curriculum for the students, which includes case-based learning and on-site observations.
Pines Bridge is a national model site for MOVE International. MOVE (Mobility Opportunities Via Education) is a dynamic, activity-based curriculum designed to teach students with severe physical disabilities the basic motor skills they need to sit, stand, and walk.
