Junior Firefighter Academy Kicks Off Next Week With 50 Kids
The Cold Spring Fire Company announces its sixth annual Junior Firefighter Academy, which kicks off Monday, July 21,2008 at 9am. This year the camp, open to local kids ages eight to 13, has enrolled 50 children who will spend six hours a day for a week learning firefighting techniques and fire prevention, performing physical fitness work outs, and practicing basic CPR and first aid.
Academy director Dan Valentine also says that the program helps teach kids the importance of teamwork. As always, this year's Academy is aided by the Philipstown Recreation Department and generous donations from Cold Spring area businesses and residents, whose support allows the children to attend the Academy for free.
