"Tots Park Jamboree" to Raise Funds for Cold Spring Tots Park

Philipstown parents agree that the most popular local destination for their young children is the Cold Spring Tiny Tots Park at McConville Park on Route 9D at Haldane Street. Kids literally screech with delight as their parents walk them to the park gate! The Tots Park is also an important place where parents meet others in the community. Many strong friendships, both adult and child, have been formed at this playground.

The Cold Spring Tiny Tots Park exists thanks to volunteerled, community-wide efforts. Since 1981, numerous community members have played a role in making this playground a reality, including the original Mothers on Mondays group (MOMs), the Village of Cold Spring, the Philipstown Community Council, the Cold Spring Lions Club, the Friends of the Tots Park, and countless others. Thanks to the generosity of many local residents and businesses, the Tots Park's current play equipment was purchased in 1990-1991.

Unfortunately, this past winter three pieces of the play equipment fell into disrepair and had to be removed. The Friends of the Tots Park, a group of interested parents and volunteers who support the Park, is now working to raise funds to replace the damaged equipment and upgrade the other play structures. They have created a blog to share information about the park and exchange ideas about its future, including prospective plans for new equipment. You can contribute your thoughts and ideas at http:/ /totspark.blogspot.com

As part of the fundraising efforts, the Friends of the Tots Park is happy to announce the Tots Park Jamboree: Saturday July 26, 2008, from 4-6pm. This musical event will feature the talents of local musicians Motherlode Trio, Kathleen Pemble, Jen Clapp, Pete Runquist, Louie Miranda and Dana Edelman. Families are invited to picnic on the grass at McConville Park and enjoy the music while the kids play! A great way to enjoy a lazy summer afternoon and connect with others in the community! Donations of $20/family will raise important funds for the purchase of new park equipment. T-shirts and lemonade will be on sale, with all proceeds to benefit the park.
