Town Board Declares July 26 Philipstown Garden Day
Pride in our Town, the enjoyment gained from the beauty of your home, and picking the first home-grown tomato of the season is what gardening is all about. In recognition of this, the Town Board passed the following resolution at the July 10, 2008 meeting:
"WHEREAS, it is the inherent beauty and harmony of the human spirit which enable people to enrich their lives by recognizing and appreciating the natural beauty in our surroundings and by creating loveliness where none exists; and WHEREAS, the Town of Philipstown encourages its residents to plant flowers in their own gardens and promote the planting of wildflowers in public areas and along the nations' roadsides; and WHEREAS, the Town of Philipstown hereby declares July 26th, "Philipstown Garden Day" as a resource for education, demonstration, conservation, research and economic development; and WHEREAS, public gardens function as a model of sustainable land management and horticultural practices; NOW, THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED, the Town Board urges all citizens to promote stewardship to our bountiful plant and garden resources"
Come celebrate this spirit at Garden Day. Historic, river view gardens are in full summer bloom and there will be different gardening topics to learn about. Whether you are a seasoned gardener excited about the volunteers' plant sale, want to learn the basics, or have seeds, plants, and garden books to bring down to swap, Garden Day on Constitution Island (10am to 4pm) offers both inspiration and fun.
The shuttle bus starts at 10am from the south end of the Cold Spring train station parking lot. Lunch and beverages will be available or bring a picnic. A $10 fee includes the shuttle, boat ride, and tours of the Warner House and Revolutionary War fortifications.
