Bronx Teen Charged in Connection With Continental Village Residential Burglary
Putnam County Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of an 18-year-old Bronx, New York youth on felony criminal charges stemming from a 2007 residential burglary which occurred in the Town of Philipstown.
According to the Sheriff, on July 27, 2007, Investigator Robert Ferris of the Sheriff's Bureau of Criminal Investigation was summoned to Morris Road in the Continental Village area of Philipstown to conduct an investigation into the reported illegal entry of a private residence. At that time the homeowner reported that someone had entered into the house and stole a Sony Playstation II game system from the residence. Investigator Ferris was able to develop a suspect in the case and applied to the Town of Philipstown Justice Court for an arrest warrant charging Frankie L. Santana of Bronx, New York with Burglary In the Third Degree. On August 8, 2007, Justice Alan Steiner issued the warrant authorizing Mr. Santana's arrest.
In an effort of taking the teen into custody, Investigators tracked Mr. Santana's whereabouts to Riker's Island Correctional Facility in New York City where he was being held on unrelated charges. Investigator Ferris, working with city jail officials and New York City Police, learned that Mr. Santana was scheduled to be released from jail and appear in Bronx Criminal Court on August 1, 2008. Upon his release from court, Investigators Ferris and Nicholas DePerno, Jr. arrested the youth on the outstanding Putnam County arrest warrant.
Mr. Santana was returned to the Sheriff's Office in Carmel, where he was processed. He was arraigned before Philipstown Town Justice Stephen Tomann and remanded to the Putnam County Correctional Facility in lieu of $25,000 bail.
A conviction of Burglary in the Third Degree may result in a term of incarceration as determined by a court for up to seven years in a New York State correctional facility.
