Putnam County's First Covered Bridge Built by Local Property Owner
Local property owner Stefan Carlson decided to enhance his cul-de-sac and to allow better emergency vehicle access to nearby Torchia Road by building a covered bridge across Clove Creek in Cold Spring.
An international master carpenter and contractor specializing in Green Building, Stefan Carlson turned a small portion of the trees he cleared for the road and underground utilities into components for Putnam County's first Covered Bridge.
He milled massive oak and maple trees for structural posts for the bridge he created over Clove Creek in Cold Spring. He also milled his own hemlock Board and Batten siding from nature's bounty. Keeping it all in the family, his son Erik drew up the engineering plans. The cul-de-sac, which is a public road, leads to five lots which are currently for sale at Carlson Court. The public is welcome to drive through to experience the bridge.
