Ans Benderer

Ans Benderer, 69, a resident of Dorr Fitch Road in West Dover, VT and owner of the Weathervane Lodge in West Dover, passed away Monday evening Sept. 22, 2008, at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH. Ans was born in Switzerland on Aug. 10, 1939, son of Conrad and Valentina Stufano Benderer. He was educated in Switzerland and studied language arts for interpretation. Ans's love for cooking led him to an apprenticeship to become a chef. He owned and operated the Plumbush Inn Restaurant in Cold Spring, for 27 years.

After selling his restaurant he moved to West Dover and purchased the Weathervane Lodge with his wife Lucia. Ans was very passionate about his cooking, enjoyed hunting, playing golf and was a great skier. Ans leaves his wife, the former Lucia Koolman, of West Dover whom he married on Nov. 17, 1963, his daughter Valentina Hickey, and her husband, Gerard of Wyckoff, NJ, his sons, Conrad Benderer, and his wife Jennifer, of Denver, NC, and Raymond Benderer, and his wife Laurie of Wingdale, NY, his brother, Erwine Benderer, of Switzerland, and his grandchildren Ramona Benderer, Tyler and Matthew Hickey, Nicholas and Kyle Benderer. He was preceded in death by his sister, Madleina Benderer.

A mass of the resurrection was celebrated on Sept. 27, 2008 at Our Lady of Fatima Catholic church in Wilmington. Interment was private.
