No Shortage of Books at Kent Library Sale This Weekend

Several Friends of Kent Library met recently at the home of Friends Director Richard Harrison to finalize plans for the Friends of Kent Library Fall Book Sale to be held on Sat., Oct. 11 from 9am to 5pm and on Sun., Oct 12 from 11am to 3pm at Kent Town Hall, 40 Sybil's Crossing, in the Kent Town Complex off Route 52.

Twice each year the Friends organize a fundraising book sale and raffle where thousands of books are available and cover a broad spectrum of categories including the Arts, Classics, Travel, Self-Help, Cookbooks, Gardening, Reference, and Children's books. Friends Director Sue Kotzur is once again creating the popular raffle baskets.

Harrison devotes much of his volunteer time selecting and pricing the Special Books that are displayed and sold in the library and in the Specials Room at each book sale. He is thrilled with the quality of the donated books. "I am really happy to see the quality of books that our community is donating. We have all kinds of art books, history books," he said. "They really live up to their name - Special Books."

"I've told everyone to come and do their Christmas and holiday shopping," Friend member Kaye Baum said. "Our children's books are just fabulous. They are like brand new," she said.

The community is also invited to attend the official dedication of the Michele Balzano Signorelli Memorial. The dedication will take place at 11am on Saturday during the Book Sale. The bronze sculpture, "Lending a Helping Hand," depicts two young children seated on a bench. The older child is reading an open book to the younger child seated next to her. Signorelli's husband, Nicholas, chose the statue to honor his wife who died of colon cancer on July 1, 2007. "Michele was from the Kent area and her family still resides in Kent," Signorelli said. "I thought it would be a nice tribute to Michele and her family and the Kent Library to have this statue in memory of her."

Registered Library Friends may shop early on Saturday. Other Early Bird shoppers will also be welcome for a $10 donation. People interested in volunteering for the event should phone Kaye Baum at (845) 225-3942. For further info call the Kent Library at: (845) 225-8585.
