Peekskill Man Charged with Unlicensed Driving, Fleeing Scene of Accident
Sheriff Donald B. Smith reports the arrest of a City of Peekskill man, a citizen of Equitorial Guinea, after he fled the scene of a traffic accident in Putnam Valley and was determined to have been driving while his license is suspended.
On October 10. 2008 at 5:45am, Deputy Sheriff Jason Quick was dispatched to a report of a "hit and run" property damage auto accident on Laurel Road in the Town of Putnam Valley. Upon arrival, the complainant reported that the other person involved in the accident had fled the scene, and provided the deputy with detailed information regarding the suspect vehicle and license plate number. Through the New York Statewide Police Information Network, the deputy was able to trace the vehicle to Jose G. Lojano, 32, a citizen of Equitorial Guinea, of 212 Fremont Street, Peekskill. On October 10, 2008 at 12pm, escorted by City of Peekskill police officers, the deputy located Mr. Lojano at his residence. Mr. Lojano admitted to having left the scene of the accident he had been involved in earlier in the day. The deputy arrested Mr. Lojano and charged him with Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the Second Degree, a misdemeanor, and various traffic violations. The defendant was processed at the Putnam County Correctional; Facility and released after posting $250 cash bail pending a future appearance in the Town of Putnam Valley Justice Court to answer the charges.
If found guilty of the misdemeanor charge, the defendant could face up to one year in jail and a fine of up to $1,000 for each charge.
