Reporter's Note To the Editor:
In reading Ms. Leiter's article on the October 1 public hearing on Putnam County's proposed 2009 budget, the author mentions that the CSEA's political action committee argued in favor of the tax hike. (That sales tax increase has now resulted in significant additional revenue for the County.) The article also states that this was at a time when "their own Assemblyman refused to support" it.
I am the reporter who covered the County Legislature for the PCN&R at the time, and I believe it should be noted that the Assemblyman to whom Ms. Leiter refers is Greg Ball.
Both Assemblywoman Sandra Galef and State Senator Vincent Leibell supported the County Legislature's and County Executive Bob Bondi's efforts to increase the sales tax as a means of reducing property taxes within the County.
