BOCES Offers 'Symposium on Diversity'

"Why Diversity Matters" is title of the keynote address at an upcoming Symposium on Diversity, sponsored by the Character Education Study Group of Putnam/Northern Westchester Board of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES). It will be given by James B. Childs, of JaRa Consulting, who helps organizations recognize bias and respond to conflict.

The symposium, open to area educators and individuals interested in learning more about diversity and bias awareness, will be held Tuesday, October 28, 2008 from 8:30am to 3pm in the School Services Building on BOCES' Yorktown campus. Among the six additional workshops offered are "Cultural Competence," "Increasing Multicultural Understanding with an Emphasis on the Latino Population," and "Anti-Bias Education and Diversity Training."

The fee for the symposium is $75, which includes breakfast and lunch. For more information or a registration form, contact the Guidance and Child Study Center at P/NW BOCES, (914) 248-2380; fax (914) 248- 2387.
