Philipstown Pee Wee Hawks Go Down to Hudson Valley A Knights
The Philipstown Pee Wee Hawks traveled to play Hudson Valley A in Poughkeepsie on Sunday and emerged with a tough loss to a Knights team that came into the contest with a 4 and 1 record on the season.
The disciplined Knights team set the tone for the game on the opening kickoff with a 55 yard return for a touchdown. The Knights missed the extra point and led 6-0. Both squads went nowhere on the next three consecutive drives until the Knights struck again on a 53 yard pass completion for a touchdown followed by the extra point bringing the score to 13-0.
The Hawks went four and out on the next series and the Knights struck again on a 30 yard touchdown pass followed by another passing play for the extra point increasing their lead to 20-0. The Hawk's Tre Hodge returned the following kickoff 9 yards to the Hawk's 48 but the ball was turned over the Knights on downs at the Hawk's 44-yard line. On the next defensive stand solid hitting by Ryan McCollum and Sean Walsh put the Knights in a 4th and 11 situation at the Hawk's 42-yard line. However, the Knights struck again, this time on a 42 yard scoring run followed by the extra point bringing the score to 27-0.
The Hawks took over on the kickoff at their own 22-yard line but unfortunately turned the ball over on an interception on 3rd down at the 30-yard line. The Knights picked up only 2 yards on the next play as lineman Robert Young made a solid stop on the inside. One play later George Fibble recovered a fumble and the Hawks took over at the 28 yard line. Fibble followed the fumble recovery up with a 30 yard run on 1st down to the Knight's 43-yard line but the half ended one play later on an incomplete pass with the score Knights 27 Hawks 0.
At the beginning of the 2nd Half the Hawks drove the ball 16 plays on the tough running of Tyler Giachinta (31 yards), George Fibble (24 yards) and Tre Hodge (12 yards) but the drive was stopped at the 12- yard line of the Knights. On the next series The Hawks fought hard to get back in the game and valuable tackles were made by Tommy D'Eustachio, Sachin Sanmugaraja, Sean Walsh and Nicholas DiGregorio stopping the Knights on four consecutive downs. Neither of the teams was able to mount any significant offense in the next two series, and the game ended with a final score of Knights 27 Hawks 0.
