Community Reacts to Heinous Crime
Residents Ponder - Is It Time to Lock the Doors?
Area residents are still stunned with the news of the Marcinak killing. Because of the holidays many in the community are just now hearing the news. The PCN&R in the past has heard many rumors that crimes have taken place in the community, but have gone unpublicized. The PCN&R wanted to take a cross-section of the community and gather their reactions to this event.
Kathleen O’Connor has lived in Cold Spring her entire life. “I couldn’t believe it. It seems the violence is getting closer to home,” O’Connor said. Terry Platz of Garrison echoed that sentiment. “You don’t think of something so awful happening in this small community,” she said. “It is just so sad that three children have been left behind,” Platz added. Michael Pizzolongo moved to the Cold Spring-Garrison area in part to escape crime. “This is really disturbing. When I came here from the Bronx it was like finding paradise. Now I wonder...” Pizzolongo commented. As residents learned of the shooting, disbelief has been mixed with fear. “It gave me chills. It is very scary,” said Mary Ellen Thom of Cold Spring.
