Eco Kids Hiking Club Comes to Cold Spring
As a joint effort between the Hudson Highland Land Trust, environmental educator Pete Salmansohn, local "Eco Moms," and the Butterfield Library, children in grades 1 through 5 can enjoy monthly exploratory hikes into the Nelsonville woods.
Led by Salmansohn (otherwise known as "Puffin Pete") and volunteer moms, the group will head into the woods to discover the secrets of the forest. They will turn over logs and possibly find salamanders, search through the creek for crayfish and see the wildlife around James Pond. They will have the opportunity to sketch what they see and create art projects using the natural materials they find.
The hikes will begin at 3:15pm at the trailhead at Mountain Avenue and Cedar Street. Participants may be picked up at the Butterfield Library at 4:30pm. The first hike will take place Friday, March 20. Additional dates are April 17, May 15, and June 12.
Registration is required. Please visit www.butterfieldlibrary.org and click on "calendar."
