Direct From The Garden to Haldane: Pete Seeger

The amazing Pete Seeger performed for Haldane Elementary School students in grades K, 1, and 2 recently. Mr. Seeger gave each grade level their own private concert. The children were spellbound as he sang for them and related wonderful stories. The students even had the opportunity to sing along with some of the old favorites such as "This Land is Your Land".

Mr. Seeger surprised everyone with his drawing ability as well as his many other talents. He drew wonderful line drawings to go along with an animal song that he sang for the kindergarten students. The drawings will be framed and displayed around the school. As well as playing the guitar, banjo, and flute, Mr. Seeger split wood to show the children how that sound could be used to add drama to a song. He also talked to the children about the beauty of the Hudson River and how the Clearwater Foundation works to keep it clean.

This wonderful concert followed shortly after Mr. Seeger's 90th birthday celebration at Madison Square Garden. The children presented Mr. Seeger with a giant card portraying him on the Clearwater and signed by every child. Everyone at Haldane was delighted by Mr. Seeger's extraordinary performance. Special thanks to the Fitzgerald family for their help in making this glorious learning opportunity possible.
