Sam Bei, owner of Hudson House in Cold Spring, admits he can't fry an egg. But he learned the rules of good food and warm hospitality while growing up, through his parents' involvement in the restaurant business. Mr. Bei took a rather circuitous route to becoming a restaurateur. He has led quite a life.
