Marcinak Funeral Draws Hundreds of Mourners
Sadness blankets community shocked by tragedy

During the gray and chilly mid-morning hours of January 6, the street outside the Clinton Funeral Home at the corner of Parrott and Pine was choked with cars, fire engines, tow trucks, and law enforcement and emergency volunteers. The mood was eerily quiet and despairing. The sidewalks were full of dark- clothed mourners, many of whom could be heard whispering, "What do they (the police) know? Have they figured out who did it?" There was a collective wistfulness about the scale of the crime and the community's loss. A Garrison Fire Department pickup truck was loaded with flower arrangements, their bright colors somehow out of place with the mood of the day. There were two fire trucks draped in purple and black bunting and many others from local fire companies including Continental Village. Bagpipers in full dress assembled in the middle of the street. They included members of the Cold Spring Village Board. They accompanied the coffin as the fire engine carried it to the cemetery.

Sheriff Donald B. Smith, who was in town, but unable to attend the funeral because of the crush of people, was reassuring. "People should feel confident that we will leave no stone unturned.
