Historical Society Talk Covers Local Environmental History

Join Joe Meisel, Felice Ramella, and the Young Associates of the Putnam County Historical Society & Foundry School Museum for an evening of delectable edibles and fascinating history on Saturday, January 23, at 5pm.

The Young Associates will gather for cocktails and hors d'oeuvres before and after the presentation. Felice Ramella is a renowned baker who has baked for New York City's top restaurants including Lespinasse, Tri-Bakery, and Café Boulud. Guests will enjoy samples of her creations including focaccia and baked sweets. Guests will also enjoy a selection of drinks.

The guest speaker will be John Ansley, head archivist leading the Marist College Environmental History Project. Using images from the archives, Mr. Ansley will lead guests through the gripping history of the activism right here in our backyard. For 25 years, local, regional, and national activists fought Con Edison over its plans to change Cold Spring's landmark Storm King Mountain into a hydro-electric power plant. This decades-long struggle was won due to the significant involvement of Philipstown's residents and the emergence of the environmental movement.

Thanks to the hosts and the Historical Society's business sponsor, Old Stone Kitchens & Country Flooring, countryflooringny. com, this event will be "pay what you wish." Any contributions are fully tax deductible and greatly appreciated.

To RSVP, please call 265- 4010.

The Putnam County Historical Society & Foundry School Museum is located at 63 Chestnut Street in Cold Spring.
