Federalist No. 14: The Extent of the Republic
Part Four in the PCN&R’s Federalist papers series. In Federalist No. 14, James Madison argues that republics, unlike democracies, can be extended over a large area. He also projects that the enterprise of the American people will eventually make a large territory seem small.
