John Doherty, beloved husband, father, brother, and uncle passed away in January, 2010.
He was born in Scotland to Michael and Bridget Doherty (deceased), and is survived by his wife Barbara; daughter Deirdre; son Michael; sisters Mary McCullagh and Josephine Doherty; brothers-in-law Michael McCullagh, James Doherty, and Robert Cooke; and several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
John was employed as an instrument design engineer for over 40 years at The Rockefeller University, a medical research institute and post-graduate university in New York City. He quickly established himself with the faculty as a valued research collaborator and was formally recognized by his colleagues in various scientific and institutional publications. John’s designs of many unique instruments enabled a greater understanding of biology and medicine to the benefit of all. His calm manner, sharp aptitude, kind heart, helping hand, and humble disposition will be greatly missed by all, especially his family and friends.
There will be a memorial Mass on May 22, 2010, at 11am in Our Lady of Loretto RC Church, Cold Spring.
