The lights of the firetrucks seen through the smoky haze.rted at the Plumbush Inn on Route 9D and Peekskill Road. As of 10pm, at least seven fire companies have responded, including Cold Spring, Garrison, Continental Village, Putnam Valley, and Fishkill. According to early reports, the fire began in the basement, and while no flames are visible from the surrounding area, the conditions around the old mansion that houses the bed and breakfast and restaurant are said to be very hot. Firefighters have been working in shifts due to the heat, and water bottles have been passed on to them. Initially a good deal of smoke billowed into the surrounding streets. As of 10:22pm efforts were still underway, and smoke is said to be within the walls of the old house.
There are reportedly no injuries.
Route 9D is closed to southbound traffic heading out of Cold Spring beyond Fishkill Road, which remains open for those seeking to head south via Route 9. Those heading north on 9D toward Cold Spring are able to proceed.
