Gail J. Koff
Gail Koff, a part-time resident of Philipstown for more than 20 years, died in New York City on August 31, from complications of leukemia at age 65.
Ms. Koff was born in Manhattan on May 15, 1945, the daughter of Murray and Sylvia Koff. She graduated from the University of California, Berkeley, in 1966 and received her law degree from George Washington University in 1969.
After graduation she moved to New York City and worked in the corporate law firm Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom. In 1978 she joined forces with Stephen Z. Meyers and Leonard G. Jacoby as the third founding partner of Jacoby & Meyers, which revolutionized legal availability to the middle class. At one point in the 1990s there were more than 150 Jacoby & Meyers Law Offices around the country. Jacoby & Meyers was the first law firm to take advantage of the U.S. Supreme Court’s ruling that law firms were allowed to advertise their services.
Gail Joanne Koff is survived by three brothers, Michael, Larry and Peter Koff, son Micah Brill, and daughters Loren and Wade Brill. Her 20-year marriage to Ralph Brill ended in 1998.
