Putnam Valley Names Fuchs Superintendent of Schools

Interim Superintendent Gets Nod from Board
by ANNIE CHESNUT

At its January 20 board meeting the Putnam Valley school board announced to an audience of two its decision to hire Interim Superintendent Dr. Barbara Fuchs as its permanent Superintendent of Schools effective July 1, 2011.

In an exclusive phone interview Board President Valerie Fitzgerald told the PCN&R about the review process.“We didn’t take it lightly,” Fitzgerald said. “We sent letters out to all of the constituent groups—PTAs, education foundation, administrators, the Putnam Valley Business Association, the Town Board, etc.—and asked for input.”

The board also waited until it had conducted Fuchs’s performance review. “We have a cohesive K-through-12 curriculum where everybody is on the same page, she has established [classroom] walk-throughs, she has an evaluation process that wasn’t ever in place prior to her coming here,” Fitzgerald said, adding “She’s got all the qualities that we’re looking for…she’s a known commodity.”

Watch for more on this new development in next week’s issue of the PCN&R.
