John Lesenger

John Lesenger of Peekskill died January 20, 2011 at his residence. John was born in Aberdeen, Scotland on May 18, 1921. He served in the British Army during World War II as a member of the Eighth Army Desert Rats. He served as the President of the St. Andrew’s Society and as President of the Highland Games. John came to the United States in 1966, and moved to Montgomery, AL in 1974 where he worked at the Winfield Estate. He and his wife returned to New York in 2006. He was an accomplished fly fisherman and taught fly fishing. He was a Rosarian—an expert in growing and cultivating roses— and was educated at Cornell University. He was actively involved in the Botanical Gardens. John is survived by his beloved wife Alise Lesenger of Peekskill and by his loving children Trevor and Ramonde Lesenger of Putnam Valley, Katherine and Gilles Jean of Peekskill, and David and Deborah Lesenger. John was the cherished grandfather of Jane (Don) Emery, Lynn (Shannon) Alpert, Michelle Liguori and Andrew and Colin Lesenger. He was the adoring great-grandfather of Joseph, Matthew, Julian and Brandon; Aidan, Camryn, Reece, Erin and Sarah. John is also survived by his beloved sisters, Lexie, Jean, Kitty, Frances and Margaret and his sister-in-law, Violet. John was a hard-working, but gentle man who touched many lives and will be deeply missed. His wife and children extend a special thanks to their friend and angel, Quessie Carr. Funeral services for John Lesenger are private and are under the direction of Heritage Funeral Home, Morrissey Drive, Putnam Valley.
