Another Year, Same Challenges

Haldane School Board
Annie Chesnut

The Haldane School District held its 2011-12 reorganization meeting on Wednesday afternoon, July 6, with the hum of air conditioning accompanying the discussion, and only two people in the audience.
Once current Board Vice President Joe Curto, Jr. had been elected the new board president, longtime president Dave Merandy—who has declared his candidacy for Philipstown Town Board but will continue to serve as a Haldane trustee—immediately placed a piece of white paper over the title on his name plate. Gillian Thorpe was unanimously elected the new Vice President.
There were some routine swearings-in, but the same faces all round. In his first remarks as president, Curto thanked Dave Merandy for his service, quipping, “You’re not dead, you’re not retiring, so I’m going to hold off some comments until later on.”
