Virginio 'Gene' Vanzo

Virginio “Gene” Vanzo, age 91, a 50-year resident of Cold Spring, NY, died on Friday, August 19, 2011 at his residence in Cold Spring.

Born August 2, 1920 in Carisolo, Italy, he was the son of the late Victor and Maria (Povinelli) Vanzo.

Mr. Vanzo was the retired owner/operator of Vanzo Equipment in the Bronx. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto Church; a life member of James Harvey Post # 2363 VFW, the George A. Casey Post # 275 American Legion, and the Loretto Council # 536 of the Knights of Columbus, all of Cold Spring, and a member of the Philipstown Seniors.

Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Betty Jean Woeltz Vanzo of the home address; four sons, Victor J. (Francine) Vanzo of Cold Spring, John (Lena) Vanzo of Barryville, NY, Kenneth Vanzo of Whittier, CA, and Christopher (Mary Lou) Vanzo of Sleepy Hollow; one daughter, Marybeth (Andrew) Maffucci of LaHabra, CA; and one brother Angelo (Annalisa) Vanzo of the Bronx. Eleven grandchildren and six great grandchildren also survive. Predeceasing him was a granddaughter, Danielle Vanzo.

A Mass of Christian Burial will take place at 10am on Tuesday, August 23, at Our lady of Loretto Church, 24 Fair Street Cold Spring. Interment will follow in the Cold Spring Cemetery.

Friends are invited to call at the Clinton Funeral Home, corner of Parrott & Pine Streets (21 Parrott Street) Cold Spring, on Monday, August 22, from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9pm. Contributions in Mr. Vanzo’s name may be made to Our Lady of Loretto Church 24 Fair Street Cold Spring, NY 10516. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Clinton Funeral Home Cold Spring, NY.
