Dramatic Rescue Drill in Garrison
On September 15, all four Philipstown fire companies and both Philipstown ambulance corps participated in a Town-wide Extrication Drill at the Garrison Volunteer Fire Company's Station Two on Route 9.
The drill simulated a massive, multiple car automobile accident with injuries in every vehicle. The purpose of the drill was not only to exercise the participants in vehicle extrications—cutting apart the cars, removing the occupants, and treating them for injuries, for which each of the emergency services companies regularly train on their own—but also to hone their incident management skills and toimprove coordination and interoperability between the various departments.
The Garrison, Cold Spring, North Highlands, and Continental Village fire companies worked together to remove two to three “victims” (heavy, lifelike dummies) from each of four cars. The victims were then treated by the Garrison and Philipstown ambulance corps. No humans were harmed in the execution of this drill.
