Thursday night, after a wide-ranging series of interviews with four candidates for a vacant board seat, Haldane School Board members selected Cold Spring’s Peter Henderson to serve out the term of Dave Merandy.

Merandy, a longtime board member and former president, left last month to serve on the Philipstown Town Board after a November election victory.

The four candidates were Robin Flanagan, Jay Pearsall, Lily Zand, and Henderson. Each had significant qualifications in a variety of areas relevant to public education.

Henderson’s considerable involvement in both the Technology and the Heating Committee at Haldane gave him a leg up, the board said, allowing him to “hit the ground running” in a situation that allowed virtually no time for new-member training.

Board members Evan Schwartz, Mike Junjulas, Joe Curto, and Gillian Thorpe conducted the interviews.

For more details on all of the candidates, see next week’s PCN&R.
