Roberta ‘Bobbette’ Smith

Roberta “Bobbette” Smith went home to be with her Lord and Savior on February 6, 2012. Bobbette was born on May 1, 1935, in Cold Spring, New York to Claude and Roberta Smith. She graduated from Haldane High School in Cold Spring, NY, and from State University of Plattsburg, NY, with a major in Home Economics and a minor in Science.

Bobbette dedicated her life to teaching. She taught in Webster, NY, and continued her education and taught in Madison, Wisconsin, before moving to California. She taught in Sacramento, Millbrae, Redwood City, and Menlo Park. In 1985, she moved to the Lodi area where she taught at Woodbridge Middle School, Tokay High School, and Bear Creek High School. She retired in 1995, but continued to be a substitute teacher for several years. Bobbette truly loved being a teacher and often expressed her love for her students and colleagues.

Bobbette had such a wonderful exuberance for life. She had unconditional love for her family and countless treasured friends. Above all, she loved the Lord and was always involved with a church and Bible study groups in all of the places she lived. She liked all outdoor activities and especially liked to gather her friends for luncheons and dinner parties. She traveled all over the United States and other countries with loved ones and friends, but her favorite place on earth remained her childhood home, Cold Spring, NY.

Her family and friends will miss her many beautiful qualities. She had a big smile and a special greeting, Hi, Gorgeous!” or “Hi, Mr. Handsome,” for everyone she met.

Bobbette is survived by her sisters, Claudia Hopper (Jim) of The Villages, FL, and Priscilla Smith of Hobe Sound, FL; nieces, Priscilla, Melissa, and Heather; nephews, Blair and Blaine; and three great nieces and six great nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Claude and Roberta Smith; twin brother, Robert; brother, David; and sister, Cynthia.

A memorial service will be held at Lodi Funeral Home, 725 S. Fairmont Ave., Lodi, CA, on Saturday, February 18, at 11 a.m. A family committal service will be held in Cold Spring, NY, at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Wilms Tumor Research at St. Jude Hospital, www.stjude.org or a charity of the donor’s choice. Lodi Funeral Home is assisting the family with the arrangements.
