Merante, Longtime Coach, Honored at Little League Kickoff

John Merante, longtime Little League coach, was hailed by Eddie Barry, president of the group, on Saturday during opening day ceremonies. Photo/Carol Balducci John Merante, the longtime Little League coach who gave three decades of service to the organization before stepping down this year, threw out the first pitch at opening ceremonies Saturday.

It was a beautiful, sunny day, perfect for baseball and softball. Varsity baseball players had delayed their own game slightly to attend; many played under Merante.
