Hazel M. Merando

Hazel M. Merando, age 92, of Cold Spring, died on Monday, April 30, 2012, at St. Luke’s Cornwall Hospital in Newburgh.

Born in Ossining, she was the daughter of the late Walter E. and Carola Belle (Cross) Brower. She was the widow of the late Philip A. Merando, Sr. who pre-deceased her in 2004.

Mrs. Merando moved to Cold Spring in 1937, where she and her husband raised their family. Always interested in community affairs, she was a parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto Church and member of Court Rita # 789 Catholic Daughters of America Cold Spring.

Survivors include her daughter Rose C. Story and her husband, Roger, of Beacon, NY. Eleven grandchildren, 24 great grandchildren, and 6 great-great grandchildren also survive.

Pre-deceasing her were two sons, William and Philip Merando; two brothers, William and Harry Brower; two sisters, Elizabeth Machette and Marian Prescott; one grandchild, Terrilee Merando and one great grandchild, Mariah Merando.

A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Saturday, May 5, 2012, at Our Lady of Loretto Church 24 Fair Street Cold Spring. Burial in Cold Spring Cemetery followed.

The family received friends at the Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott Street, Cold Spring, NY, on Friday, May 4th.

In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Kaplan Family Hospice Residence, 1 Sunset Lane Newburgh, NY 12550 or the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation 6931 Arlington Road, 2nd Floor Bethesda, MD 20814.

Funeral arrangements are entrusted to the Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring.
