Annie Chesnut Editor’s Note: The PCN&R this year provided five senior students with $1,000 scholarships to encourage and assist them in college or vocational training. Students from within the towns of Philipstown and Putnam Valley applied and were selected by PCN&R staff for the awards. Key to the winning selections was an essay from each student. The students chose from two topics: Why I Love America, or Early Americans Who Influenced Me the Most, and Why. We are printing the winning essays here, and there is not better week to do so than that of July 4th.
