William H. Staples

On June 13, 2012, at age 72, William H. Staples passed away at his home in Solana Beach, Calif., with his loving wife Carol by his side. The youngest of six children, Bill was born on Feb. 29, 1940, in Cold Spring, to Harold and Josephine Staples.

Bill was a veteran of the U.S. Army and served in Korea. He began his career as a dedicated New York State Trooper in 1966 at Troop C in New York. On April 19, 1972, he married Carol Tiley and moved to Gabriels with their children, after transferring to Troop B in Ray Brook.

In 1976, they purchased Sandy Hill Cabins, where they raised their three children: Todd, Michelle and Shannon. After retiring in 1988, Bill and Carol moved to Solana Beach, Calif., where they enjoyed sunshine, warm weather and their time together.

Bill is survived by his wife of 40 years, Carol; his son Todd Deppe and wife Mary of Avon, Conn.; his daughter Michelle Deppe Martin and her husband Dan of Lake Clear; his daughter Shannon Staples Alicea and her husband Billy of San Diego, Calif.; and a son Sean Staples and family of New York; a sister-in-law, DiAnne Kutz of Solana Beach; and two sisters, Elizabeth and Barbara. He is also survived by his six granddaughters: Meghan, Jillian, Kendra, Hannah, Paige and Sydney; and one grandson, Andrew.

Bill was a very proud and dedicated man and a warm and caring husband, father, grandfather and friend who will be missed tremendously by all.

A celebration of life will be held in Saranac Lake at the convenience of the family.
