Odell supports Tappan Zee Bridge replacement plan

Says important to economy
Eric Gross

Putnam County Executive MaryEllen Odell is supporting the $5.2 billion plan to replacing the aging Tappan Zee Bridge.

Standing alongside her colleagues – Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino and Rockland County Executive Scott Vanderhoef Thursday in Tarrytown overlooking the bridge – Odell called the moment historic: "The three of us agree the replacement of the old bridge is one of the largest projects New York has undertaken in years. History has proven that projects like this one help local families by getting them back to work or by keeping them employed. This resonates with my residents in Putnam County since jobs, jobs and more jobs will be created."

Odell believes the construction will "stimulate the area's economic development while enhancing tourism for the future."

The three executives called for a regional task force to study additional options for the new bridge including commuter rail lines and indicated bus lanes.
