George C. Tompkins

George C. Tompkins, age 70, of Cold Spring, NY, died on Thursday, October 4, 2012, at St Francis Hospital in Poughkeepsie.

Born in Cold Spring on November 22, 1941, he was the son of the late James A. Tompkins and Nancy A. (Merando) Tompkins.

Mr. Tompkins was Vice President of production with Walter G. Legge Co. in Peekskill. He was a member and ex-president of Cold Spring Fire Company # 1, member of the Cold Spring Boat Club, a Parishioner of Our Lady of Loretto Church and former Building Inspector for the Village of Cold Spring.

Survivors, in addition to his mother of Cold Spring, include his wife of 49 years Marie E. (Rennwantz) Tompkins; one son Paul M. Tompkins of Wappingers Falls; one daughter Rene M. Hager of Wallkill; one brother Charles A. (Paula) Tompkins of Lawrenceville, N.J.; one sister Nancy Sobier-Maier of Schweitenkirchen, Germany; sister in law Yvonne Tompkins of Chelsea, NY; and the apple of his eye, Pop Pop’s little girl, granddaughter Shana Marie Hager. Many nieces and nephews also survive.

Predeceasing him was a brother James C. Tompkins and his nephew Peter Sebastian Maier.

A Mass of Christian burial was offered Tuesday, October 9, 2012, at Our Lady of Loretto Church 24 Fair Street Cold Spring, with interment following at Cold Spring Cemetery. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Cold Spring Fire Company # 1, 154 Main Street Cold Spring, NY 10516 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital 501 St Jude Place Memphis, TN 38105.

Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Clinton Funeral Home, Cold Spring, NY 10516.
