Barbara Pointer

Barbara Rose (Houston) Pointer, 77, of Midlothian, Va., passed away Nov. 2, 2012, at 8:36 a.m. She was born in Cornwall, N.Y., July 25, 1935. Barbara is survived by her husband of 57 years, John P. Pointer; her daughter, Rebecca (Roger) Nicholson; three grandchildren, Sean, Jessica and Elizabeth Nicholson; and her sister Amy Finnegan. She was predeceased by her parents, her brother William S. Houston and her sister Suzanne H. Guadagno.

A memorial service was held Nov. 16, 2012.

Barbara attended Haldane High School in Cold Spring, N.Y., and college in Utica, N.Y. As a full-time homemaker she also worked in office management and as a buyer for Lord and Taylor. A woman of many talents, Barbara was an excellent cook and entertainer. She loved a party! Creative and enthusiastic as a wife, mother and friend, she would listen, give sage advice and always keep confidences to herself. Always well dressed, loving all games and competitions, Barbara excelled at bridge and golf. She belonged to many clubs and groups. Well traveled and having enjoyed a long retirement with her husband, John, she will be missed by friends made throughout the USA and Europe and by her family most of all.
