Mount Saint Mary College Names Elizabeth Ailes a Trustee
The Board of Trustees of Mount Saint Mary College has elected Elizabeth Ailes as a Trustee for an initial three-year term beginning January 2013.
Mrs. Ailes is a 20-year veteran of NBC News, CNBC, and America’s Talking, the forerunner of MSNBC. She has since brought her intensity of journalistic focus to the 147-year-old Putnam County News & Recorder and to the Putnam County Courier, New York State’s oldest, continually published weekly, established in 1841. Mrs. Ailes is the owner and publisher of both papers.
She began her career at NBC News Radio and NBC News after graduating with a degree in journalism from Southern Connecticut State University. She was the first producer hired at CNBC and part of a three-person team responsible for launching the network in 1989. She later became director of business programming at CNBC, before being appointed vice president of programming for America’s Talking.
She is the recipient of the Whipple Foundation’s 2010 Preserve Putnam Award, and the Chamber of Commerce Entrepreneurial Spirit Award. Mount Saint Mary College president Fr. Kevin E. Mackin, OFM, presented her with an honorary doctor of letters degree at the college’s commencement ceremony in 2012.
Mrs. Ailes is married to Roger Ailes, Chairman and CEO of the Fox News Channel and Fox Business Network. The Ailes family home is in Garrison, N.Y.
Ranked a Top-Tier Regional University (North) by U.S. News & World Report, Mount Saint Mary College offers strong undergraduate preparation for careers in health professions, education, business, human services and communication/liberal arts, as well as master’s degrees. A large number of Putnam County students attend the school.
The Mount will hold an open house for prospective students on Sunday, January 27, on its campus overlooking the Hudson River at Newburgh. For more information see the college website at msmc.edu.
