Philip J. Cerniglia

Philip J. Cerniglia, son of Giusto Cerniglia and Anna Sucato Cerniglia (both deceased), born July 26, 1940, was surrounded by his family when he passed away early Sunday, February 17, 2013, at Hope Hospice in Fort Myers, FL.

Phil was born in Poughkeepsie, and attended Mt. Carmel Grade School and Poughkeepsie High School. He was a graduate of Syracuse University, was commissioned as a second lieutenant and served at Ft. Hood Texas in the 2nd Armored Division. Phil had a long career with IBM, serving in manufacturing management positions in the U.S. and internationally. Retired, he lived in Garrison, NY, and Fort Myers, FL.

Phil is survived by his wife, Joan Rinaldi Cerniglia, their three sons; David and his wife Frances Brown Cerniglia of Fort Myers, FL, Gregg and his wife Colleen Sheridan Cerniglia of Wake Forest, NC, and Eric and his wife Erin Green Cerniglia of Poughkeepsie, NY. Phil is also survived by his grandchildren, Daniel Philip, Allison Melissa, Joseph John, Sydney Anna, Mackenzie Joan, Peri Sheridan, Reese Sarah and Anna Sophia as well as many cousins and nieces and nephews. Phil was a loving husband, father and grandfather and will be greatly missed.

A celebration of his life was held February 19th at the Brown Academy, 12211 Towne Lake Drive, Ft. Myers, 33913. An additional gathering of family and friends will be celebrated at a later date in New York. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (jdrf.org), Hope Hospice (HopeHospice.org) or CaringBridge (CaringBridge.org). The family requests that condolence messages be posted to CaringBridge (www.caringbridge.org/visit/ philcerniglia/guestbook) in lieu of sympathy cards.
