Here's a snow roundup from our writer Eric Gross:
With the arrival of spring a day away Putnam residents awakened to another blast from Old Man Winter this morning.
Snow began falling around 6 p.m. Monday and within hours roads became extremely slippery. State Police reported investigating 38 property damage and three personal injury crashes overnight on Routes 84, 684, 6, 22 and 9.
Sgt. Joseph Malorgio said numerous cars were also left abandoned by their drivers due to the extremely slippery conditions.
Due to the hazardous conditions resulting from the snow turning to freezing rain around 3 a.m. all public schools in Putnam are operating on a two-hour delay including the Brewster, Carmel, Garrison, Haldane, Mahopac, North Salem and Putnam Valley Districts.
Other schools opening two hours late include the Pawling and Lakeland School Districts; Hampton School in Mahopac, St. James School in Carmel; Kiwi Pre-School in Mahopac, Hudson Valley Christian Academy in Mahopac Falls and St. Lawrence Early Childhood Center in Brewster.
The Putnam Office for the Aging Senior Nutrition Centers and Adult Day Care programs in Putnam Valley, Carmel and Mahopac will not be operating today.
