Patricia Anne Sharer

Visiting Sunday, Service Monday, in Glenville

Patricia Anne Sharer, 49, of Cold Spring, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2013 at New York Presbyterian Weill Cornell Hospital Surrounded by her loving family and lifelong friend Annie DeNero. For five years she fought a courageous battle against breast cancer.

Born in Albany, NY on March 12, 1964 she was the daughter of Elizabeth (O’Rourke) Sharer McGuire(late Mickey) of Glenville, N.Y. Patty was predeceased by her father Frederick Sharer of Colonie, N.Y in March of this year.

Patty grew up in Delmar and moved to Schenectady in 1978. She was a 1982 graduate of Linton High School. She graduated from Junior College of Albany with a degree in fine arts and then continued her education at Pratt Institute in Brooklyn where she received a bachelor’s degree. Following college she married John DiFucci. In 1999 she gave birth to her pride and joy, Luke. For a number of years she resided in Jersey City working as an interior designer. Most importantly raising her son Luke and being a mother was her greatest passion. She moved to Cold Spring in June of 2012.

Patty enjoyed spending time at the ocean with Luke. Their favorite pastime was collecting sea shells, and watching the sun rise and set. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. Her hobbies included gardening and painting.

Patty was predeceased also by her grandparents Patrick and Kathleen O’Rourke and Betty and William Sharer. Survivors include her son Luke DiFucci of Cold Spring; her husband Paul Osterling of Jersey City N.J.; her brother Michael J. Sharer and his wife Brenda of Glenville; stepsisters Kathleen (William) Mussig of Seekonk, Mass., Theresa McGuire of Scotia, N.Y. , and Patricia (Robert) Martin of Coventry R.I. Patty was lovingly survived by many nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and dear friends. Very dear to her heart were Jonathan, Emma, and Sean Sharer and her Aunt Cathie O’Rourke.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held Monday July 1, 2013 at 11 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 816 Union St. Relatives and friends are cordially invited to attend calling hours at the Glenville Funeral Home, 9 Glenridge Rd, Glenville, Sunday from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m.

Interment will be located at Sweetman Cemetery in Charlton N.Y. Contributions may be made in Patty’s name to GILDA’S CLUB at 195 West Houston St, New York, NY, 10014 or Triple Negative Breast Cancer Foundation PO Box 204 Norwood NJ 07648

The family would like to express their gratitude to the numerous doctors and medical staff that continued to fight with Patty through this long battle. Also special thanks to her cherished friends at Gilda’s Club.
