Beacon Hebrew Alliance Announces Summer Services Schedule

Synagogue notes with pride that two members are becoming Eagle Scouts

Summer services will be held every Friday at 7:30 p.m at Beacon Hebrew Alliance, except July 25 and August 22, when BHA will have Shabbot morning services at 9:30am led by Cantor Ellen Gersh.

Beacon Hebrew is proud to announce that they have two of their congregants who will become Eagle Scouts on June 22. Their ceremonies will be held in different locations, as they belong to different troops. Both Josh Breslauer, son of Izak and Joan Breslauer, and Joey Bernstein, son of Sue and Gary Bernstein, have completed their requirements for Eagle Scout and will receive them on that date. It is especially interesting that less than 2% of all Boy Scouts become Eagle Scouts (the highest rank possible), so these two young men deserve a great deal of respect for what they have achieved.

Beacon Hebrew Alliance in Need of Donations to Recover Costs of Emergency Expense

Beacon Hebrew Alliance has had a large, unexpected expense in the form of a broken water line, which needed to be repaired. The Temple was dedicated in 1929, and a lot of the line was original. The shut off valve at the street did not work, so it was necessary to dig into Fishkill Avenue (closed the street for the day) to join a new line at the water main. The old line was made of cast iron with leather couplings that just wore out. The final bill will be about $18,000.

BHA is accepting donations to help recover the costs and to re-landscape in front of the synagogue where shrubs and grass had to be dug up. BHA will be most happy and appreciative of donations of money or plantings to repair the exterior look of the shul. For more information, please call the synagogue at 831-2012
