Bates Lee Cutten


 

 

Bates Lee Cutten, “The Bear”, of Garrison, passed away peacefully on May 11, 2018. He was 89.

Born on January 7, 1929, in New York City to the late Joseph Cutten and Harva Wabuda. Bates was a retired New York State Trooper retiring after 29 years as a BCI Investigator. He was a NYS Police Shooting Team Member for many years and a firearms instructor. He was also a self defense instructor. Bates was an avid golfer, bowler and loved the outdoors. He was a proud US Army Veteran, serving during World War II in northern Italy.

He is survived by his loving sons Mark W. Cutten and his wife Lisa of Hermosa Beach, California, Scott B. Cutten and his girlfriend Brenda Curler of Broken Arrow, Oklahoma, Rod R. Cutten of Churchville, New York, Eric S. Cutten and his husband Orlando of West Hollywood, California. Also, cherished grandchildren Justin, Nathan, Nicole and Benjamin Cutten; and loving great grandchildren Isaac Arsee, Sara Arsee, Olivia Cutten and Bensen Cutten.

Bates was predeceased by his wife Beverly R. Cutten and daughter in law Lisa Cutten.

Friends called on Tuesday, May 15, 2018, from 5-8pm at Clinton Funeral Home, 21 Parrott Street, Cold Spring. A Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday May 16, 2018, at 1pm at St. Philip’s in the Highlands, 1101 Route 9D, Garrison. Burial with military honors will follow in St. Philip’s Cemetery, Garrison.
